As a Coors Family company, MJB takes pride in building off the storied success and timeless values of our ownership. At MJB, we are committed to serving our customers with the same pioneering spirit, innovation, and quality that have characterized the Coors Family's business for almost 150 years.

A Legacy of Innovation: MJB and the Coors Family

Humble Beginnings: The Birth of Coors Brewery

Adolph Coors, a penniless brewer’s apprentice, stowed away on a ship from Germany in 1868 and made his way west, coming upon the perfect water of Clear Creek in Golden, Colorado, at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. He opened Coors brewery in 1873.

CoorsTek: The Beginning

In 1910, the Coors Family made its initial investment in CoorsTek, a highly innovative manufacturer of technical ceramics. By leveraging expertise in engineering and materials science, CoorsTek provides solutions to complex technical challenges in the semiconductor, medical, automotive, aerospace, and other industries.

Resilience Through Dry Times

Prohibition hits Colorado in 1916 and then the nation in 1919. Coors survived by focusing on CoorsTek and producing malted milk which was sold to soda fountain and candy companies until prohibition was lifted in 1933.

Patriotism and Progress: Coors’ Legacy of Support and Sustainability

In 1941, Coors aided the war effort by setting aside half of all beer brewed for the military. Now that’s supporting our troops!

As you take a sip from your next can of beer, you can thank Bill Coors for its fresh taste. In 1959, the two-piece recyclable aluminum can designed by Coors made its debut with a 7-ounce Coors Banquet, a move that revolutionized the beverage container industry. Because of his passion for the environment, Bill Coors wanted to make sure other beverage makers would join Coors' efforts to start a recycling revolution. His big bet paid off.

Ceramic Armor: Protecting Those Who Serve

In 1966, CoorsTek pioneered a breakthrough in lightweight protection with the development of ceramic armor components for military applications. These innovative materials provided enhanced protection for service members while reducing the weight of traditional armor systems. Building on this legacy, CoorsTek continues to play a critical role in defense by supplying the U.S. military with advanced ceramic armor solutions. These components are engineered to neutralize a range of ballistic threats, including armor-piercing rounds and IED shrapnel, ensuring the safety and effectiveness of those who serve.

A Legacy of Leadership and Growth

Today, MJB Wood Group benefits from the guidance of Peter Coors and Timothy Coors, 5th generation members of the Coors family, who serve on MJB’s Board of Directors. Their leadership provides a long-term vision rooted in family values and a commitment to excellence.

This vision was on full display at the grand opening of MJB’s flagship facility in Bristol, Indiana. The event was attended by key leaders, including Timothy Coors and Peter Coors, along with MJB’s President Scott Griggs, Executive Vice President Jeff Messick, and Vice President of RV/Transportation Cliff Caudill. This milestone reflects MJB’s continued growth and innovation as a global leader in wood products.

While MJB’s services and capabilities have a global reach, our roots remain proudly local and American-made. Founded in 1975 in a home office in Temple, Texas, MJB has grown into a global force in the sourcing, manufacturing, and distribution of wood products. Today, as a Coors family-owned company, we supply a diverse line of global and domestic panel products, wood components, millwork, and specialty products across North America.

Give us a call or drop by one of our locations in Alabama, Texas, Indiana, South Carolina, or Arkansas to discuss how we can best serve your wood products and supply chain needs. We would love to see you and chat over a Coors beer.
